Unedited notes from post-expedition reviews, collected by our field coordinators within a week of each return.
Straight answers about group size, fitness levels, permits, and what happens when the weather turns. No fine print, just the details that matter for planning.
We cap every expedition at twelve travelers. This keeps homestays intimate, lets us use smaller ferries and vans, and means your guide can actually know your pace and preferences by day two.
Most coastal itineraries require comfortable walking for four to six hours with moderate elevation gain. We publish a difficulty rating for each departure, from relaxed village-to-village walks to ridge routes with exposed sections. If you are unsure, send us your usual hiking routine and we will recommend a match.
Yes. Permits for protected areas, national park entry, and local community fees are arranged in advance and covered in the expedition cost. Your pre-departure pack lists exactly which documents you need to carry and which ones we handle.
We monitor forecasts closely and adjust daily plans rather than cancel outright. If a sea crossing or high pass is unsafe, we swap the day's route for a lower-altitude alternative and reshuffle the itinerary. Full cancellations are rare, and when they happen you receive a full refund or a transfer to another seasonal departure.
You bring personal clothing, boots, and a daypack. We provide group gear such as satellite communication, first-aid kits, and cooking equipment for remote sections. Each itinerary includes a detailed gear checklist, and we offer a rental list for items like trekking poles and dry bags.
Solo travelers are welcome on every departure. About a third of our guests arrive alone, and homestay-style accommodations mean you are never isolated. We pair solo travelers with same-gender roommates in shared rooms unless you request a private supplement.
